Today I have an ASUS Sabertooth 990FX Rev2.0 to fix. This was a really easy fix, at least it would have been if I had the knowledge, but let’s start from the beggining.

Looks like I got a freebie – FX8350. This line of CPUs is kind of special to me, as I my first ‘gaming’ PC had a FX8320. In retrospective this was quite a bad decision, but 8 cores sounded good to me.

Almost immediately after plugging it in I noticed one thing – something got hot near the SB. As it turns out, electronics seems to work better, when inserted the right way into the socket.

Unfortunately on POST card I got a 00 – nothing.

My thoughts went to that BIOS chip, and quite quickly I saw a problem.

BIOS image I wanted to externally flash was too large. I tried moving the last part to before 0x007FFFF0 (again, in retrospective I should have just deleted FIRST 780 lines), but that also gave me 00.

But then I discovered that this board can flash without CPU – “flashback”, and so I tried it.

And 00 again… NOT!

Yep, seems to be working fine.

Thanks for reading!
