This time on the bench lies an ASUS GTX 680. The process is going to be similar to previously repaired 780TI, so without further ado, let’s get started.
I started with previously imaged pendrive, the one without autorun, but before that i’m greeted with POST screen full of green dots. In my experience dots are a mixed batch in tesms of fixability – I had some broken cores, but there were a few that just had faulty VRAMs. Here are the results of the MATS tests:
What do we have here… OK, broken VRAM chip, A1, and also only one bad bit – A47.
I have a Radeon HD6970, which had a shorted core with compatible VRAM ICs, but since I’m not sure whether these chips are worth anything I decided to just do a reflow this time.
If You’re wondering why I uploaded two same pictures look closer at A1 VRAM. Yes, that’s rest of the flux I used to reflow this IC. Keep in mind that if there is liquid damage on the PCB artifacts likely will sonner or later come back, so I don’t necessarily consider this method a “fix”, but since I’m not going to sell or give away this card that’s not that important, let’s see if artifacts are gone.
YES! GPU is working, the curse of green dots is lifted! Same as in previous case I’m off to test this GPU in UNIGINE Heaven.
