I’m back with some more untested trash I call treasure. This time something truly unusal, a DFI NF4 Lanparty board, but with its original package.
Man, if this doesn’t scream 2000’s I don’t know what does. It’s got everything – logos, badges and cheesy graphics.
Look at all those features!
No, but for real this time, this board is one of the best 939 MoBos. It’s got dual LAN, dual PCI-E (moddable to SLI, but more on that later) and POWER ON AND RESET BUTTONS!
And UV sensitive slots and cables.
Can’t forget about UV.
Looks like a jackpot – everything is in there.
There are two things in particular that managed to interest me more than the others.
Tongs for removing the BIOS IC and semi-external sound card.
I have no idea how often You’d need these tongs, but guess what.
I like it. It’s a sign of the old times – You needed a tool to service? Sure, here You go. Knock yourself out.
Also, look at the sound synthesizer IC. It’s a Realtek ALC850, which back in the day was better than majority of cheaper PCI sound cards. There’s only one problem with it. It was really unoptimized, almost tanking CPU performance while being used.
Cool.
Let’s take a look at the main attraction now.
…
Is it just me or there is something wrong with my SB cooler?
Nevertheless it’s still a Lanparty. The poorer version, without additional SATA and SLI, but still.
Cool.
For some reason this DIY solution cracks me up every time I look at it.
I mean, it’s ingenious, but also stupid on so many levels. It works though.
I hope.
OK, I’m talking so much, but let’s see if it even fires up.
Surprisingly, for an untested condition, it’s alive.
I want You to pay attention to the second screenshot.
This board has a baked in MemTest! Talking about old times and manufacturers priorities.
Old version of MemTest, but still.
Cool.
Time for the beforementioned SLI mod. Remember my previous post about MSI NF4 board? There was a link there which explained how to mod a ‘normal’ NF4 chip to a SLI+SATA II IC.
This board already has SATA II, but it doesn’t have SLI.
YET.
And *BAM*.
It now fully supports two-way SLI.
Just like that.
Last thing before some major… ekhm… ekhm… testing session – custom BIOS. I decided to flash a BigToe 704 modded rom.
With that I’m off to do some testing.
Not really, I’m going to do retro gaming.
Thanks for reading!
