So, what I said last time was a lie. I said that it’s unfixable. Welp, I found another dead PE7700, with *spoilers*, likely good motherboard.

How about we check if I was right that the DDP1010 processor was dead?

It seems like it was already a parts unit before it got into my hands. What’s good though, it had a working and original lamp, which I obviously don’t mind getting as a bonus, because I lately use the BENQ W10000 projector quite a lot.

Okay, but let’s skip the boring bits, why did it even become a parts unit?

Right…

Seems legit… NOT!

That type of a failure definitely would condemn this unit, it not only has a broken panel, it also is completely missing another one.

Cost of such repair are through the roof, and chances of obtaining replacement parts are small.

BUT NOT ZERO!

Both boards on the bench – looks good to me, how about You?

Before I powered up the repaired unit I took a look at the DMD chip from the broken one.

I genuinely can’t tell if it’s broken, or that’s just dust. I had to wipe it because I accidentally touched the glass with my finger creating some distracting fingerprints. I used IPA to at least temoralrily remove the smudges, but it didn’t help much.

There for sure are some specs, either on the chip, which is bad, or under the glass, which is not good, but also not the end of the world. I’ll keep the IC for now.

Forget about it though. Let’s see if the PE7700 works.

IT DOES!

I was right, the MCU is broken. Image is kind of blurry, but that’s because I didn’t adjust the focus properly and the paper that I was holding wasn’t straight.

BUT IT WORKS!

I had the projector crooked (again), but You can see that the top right corner kind of goes up. It’s completely unnoticeable while watching a movie, so I won’t mess with the geometry inside.

Thanks for reading!
