Another dead motherboard from ASUS, this time for AMD processors. It’s a Crosshair V Formula.

Problem – absolutely no power. Power_on# signal is present, so the southbridge IC is toast.

I don’t remember when did I buy a replacement chip, but I already had it, so motherboard went to the oven for a few hours and then straight onto the BGA machine.

…and in with the new.

It even works!

As a bonus I updated the BIOS.

Now, my previous SB/PCH swap wasn’t very successful. It was freezing after a couple of minutes, but I couldn’t replicate such issue on this motherboard – it ran Memtest for a few hours and didn’t hang up.

Success!

I obviously will need to test it some more, but for now I deem this motherboard fixed!
